A simple applique patch that you can add to anything! I have worked it in cotton double crochet using a 4.5mm hook but the instructions would work for any yarn using an appropriate hook, giving different sizes accordingly.

Cotton DK in yellow, white and orange; either a safety eye or black yarn; 4.5mm hook

Approximately 10cm tail to beak

Instructions
Body – in white
6dc into a magic circle, join with slst, pull the circle closed and fasten yarn, ch4.
2dc into 3rd chain from hook, 1dc into chain, 2dc into next 5 sts, 1dc into final st of circle, 1dc into bottom of the first 2 chain sts, slst to join to top of starting chain (17sts)
Fasten of white and join in yellow.
Ch 2, (tr, dc) into same st, 1dc, dc2tog, (2dc, 1dc) 5 times, dc in next 2sts, (dc, tr) in final st, ch1, slst join to top of starting ch (25 sts)
Ch 1, dc in next 2sts, dc2tog, (1dc, 2dc, 1dc) 6 times, (dc,2tr) in chsp, fasten off yarn.
Head – in yellow
6dc into a magic circle, join with slst, pull the circle closed and fasten yarn
Ch1, dc in same st, 2dc into all sts, slst to 1st chain to join (12sts)
Ch1, (2dc, 1dc) 5 times, 2dc, slst to 1st chain to join (18sts)
C1, dc into same st, (dc, dc, 2dc) 5 times, dc into last 2sts, slst to 1st chain to join. Fasten off yarn.
Beak – in orange
Ch 5, slst join to start, fasten off yarn.
Assembly
Sew in all yarn ends securely. Attach beak to edge of head. Attach head to body, overlapping slightly and angling the beak correctly. Fix the safety eye in place or embroider as preferred.
